A-Z #2: 28 Days Later

As we all know, if you want a big film collection, nowadays, it is easy. You can pick up hundreds of DVD's for a buck each - it doesn't matter. But, as a film fan, I'm sure - like every other film fan - the ifrst thing you have a gander at when visiting a new friends house is their film collection - its never about quantity, its about quality. A-Z is my way of going through my collection, from A-Z, and justifying why I own the films

#2 - 28 Days Later...

Why did I buy it?
Primarily for Danny Boyle. I watched it years ago and was not actually that fussed - zombies being taken seriously? ("I lost my family to ... sob sob ....zombies", I'm sorry, I don't care) but, after I realised that all of Danny Boyle's films are awesome (maybe not A Life Less Ordinary) I thought my initial it-really-isn't-that-good attitude may have been jarred. So, I bought it on the cheap (film-only package...) for £3 and trotted home, happy as Larry.

Why do I still own it?

Obviously, upon rewatching it, I thought it was alot better than I remembered. Not incredible and definitely not in Boyles Top 5 films, but Cillian Murphy is a great actor and I reckon it one which shall be rewatched many times in the future to simply see Boyle-do-Horror. Lastly, I am a completist and, as I own all of Danny Boyle's films ... I'd never have a gap...

  1. I'm a bigger fan of this I guess. Murphy, Gleeson, ace-casting to say in the least.

  2. I think most people love it - often putting as their favourite Boyle film. You're right, Gleeson and Murphy are great - don't forget Chris Eccleston! But again, taking zombies seriously ... hmmm
